Marcel “The Warbling Dutchman” Luske Releases Music CD
My, oh, my, it’s shaping up to be a fine week here at the old Kick Ass Poker blog, starting off with one of those oddball tidbits that tend to brighten up one’s day. Y’all remember Marcel “The Flying Dutchman” Luske with Team PokerStars? It’s hard to name a more dapper dresser than Marcel, always decked out to the nines in his trendy European suits — and then there was the time Marcel explored opening his own of upscale clothing shops, with possible American outlets in New York and Las Vegas; nothing came of that one, I guess. Marcel wears his suits well, regardless of whether or not he’s also sporting his upside-down sunglasses, another distinctly Marcel touch that’s been part of his poker image through the years.
If you know Marcel (as I do) you’ve probably heard him start singing, during breaks or even once or twice right at the poker table. I remember Marcel breaking out into a few measures late at night in the 2008 WSOP 7-card Stud Hi-Lo World Championship, once the thing got down to two tables and play was guaranteed to stretch well into the morning. Marcel’s a tenor with lots of vibrato, and he carries a tune alright.
And now he’s released a CD, pimping it up at his Internet home base, marcelluske.com. The CD, titled More Than Just a Game, is physically available in Europe only, but it can be picked up by the curious on iTunes. Thirteen tracks are included, and samples are available on the site. It’s a bit Michael Buble-esque, as mentioned in the liner notes, which also include a handful of poker references.
Here’s the brief blurb for the CD, and you’ll see the poker references fly early and often:
More Than Just A Game, the new music album recorded by Team PokerStars Pro Marcel ‘The Flying Dutchman’ Luske. It had always been one of his child-hood dreams to record his own studio album. With the help of PokerStars he was able to realize this dream and create an album with some easy listening music that could cheer up and calm down any poker player after a bad beat at the table or in life….
I can’t say I’m dying to listen to it, but I imagine it’s got to better than Jeff Madsen rapping, no?
